UCF Signs Two Volleyball Players
UCF Press Release
November 13, 2002
ORLANDO - UCF head volleyball coach Meg Colado announced
Wednesday the signing of two student-athletes to national letters-of-intent to
play volleyball for the Golden Knights beginning in 2003. Kate Street (Spring,
Texas/Klein) and Jana Mitchell (Champlin, Minn./Osseo) have given Colado their
signatures to play for UCF.
"We are so thrilled to have Kate and Jana committed," said Colado. "These two
early signees are a great fit for UCF and we are excited to have them join us."
Street (5-11, OH/MB) was a three-year letterwinner at Klein High School, outside
of Houston. "Kate is a very versatile athlete who has experience in the middle,
but will hit on the outside for us," commented Colado. "She brings a big block
and more height to our outside hitter position."
Over her career at Klein, Street has been named to the all-district first team
in addition to being named the all-district rookie of the year in 2000. This
season, she leads her team in digs and kills and is one of the top 10 hitters in
the Houston Area. Street has also gained valuable experience with the Texas
Tornados Club Volleyball Team, which was ranked No. 1 in the nation last season
after winning two national tournaments.
Mitchell (6-1, MB) was a two-year standout at Osseo High School in Champlin,
Minnesota. "Jana was one of the hardest working middles in club this past
season," stated Colado. "She is smart and will be a great addition to our middle
position."
An all-conference and all-metro selection from the Twin Cities region, Mitchell
led her team in blocks as a senior and owns the school record for career blocks.
Mitchell was also a vital cog in leading Osseo to a fourth-place finish in the
state as a junior.
