SIX FROM UCF EARN ALL-MAC HONORS     Cornerback Asante Samuel, defensive end Elton Patterson, and strong safety Atari Bigby are among six players from UCF to earn all-conference honors by the Mid-American Conference. The trio earned first-team defensive honors, while receivers Jimmy Fryzel and Doug Gabriel earned second-team honors along with punter Ryan Flinn.

Doug Gabriel's NFL Future Is Bright     UCF fans were probably not the only football aficionados cheering Doug Gabriel on Saturday, as he set a school record with four touchdown receptions in a 42-32 win over Ohio. NFL scouts and personnel were without a doubt taking notice as well, watching Gabriel, a senior, catch seven balls for 179 yards.

UCF Wins University Hoops Classic     Marius Boyd's put-back with one second remaining lifted UCF to a 50-49 win over Indiana State University in the championship game of the University Hoops Classic at Fogelman Arena on the campus of Tulane University Sunday afternoon.

UCF TO MEET FLORIDA IN THE NCAA VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS     The UCF volleyball team will play Florida in the opening round of the 2002 NCAA Volleyball Championships, as announced by the NCAA Selection Committee Sunday night. The Golden Knights will be making their sixth appearance in the NCAA Championships and the second straight under head coach Meg Colado.

UCF Bags Black Bears in New Orleans     Ray Abellard and Ed Dotson combined for 46 points and the UCF defense allowed just 24 second-half points as the Golden Knights were able to put away a pesky Maine squad 72-55 in third round action at the University Hoops Classic at Fogelman Arena Saturday afternoon.

UCF Washes Green Wave Ashore For First Round Win     Senior Ray Abellard hit seven of his nine free-throws in the final two-and-a-half-minutes en route to a 22-point game as UCF turned back host Tulane, 66-61, in the University Hoops Classic at Fogelman Arena Friday evening.

FRYZEL HONORED TWICE BY THE MAC     UCF receiver Jimmy Fryzel (Lakeland, Fla.) was honored by the Mid-American Conference this week as its East Division Offensive Player of the Week for football and its male Scholar Athlete of the week for all sports as a result of his performance in UCF’s 48-31 win against Miami University in Oxford, Ohio Saturday.

UCF To Prepare For NCAAs With Thanksgiving Tournament     The UCF Golden Knights look to prepare for the NCAA Volleyball Championships this weekend as the Golden Knights host the UCF Thanksgiving Tournament Friday and Saturday at the UCF Arena.

UCF MEN'S BASKETBALL INKS PLAYER     The UCF men's basketball team and head coach Kirk Speraw announced on Wednesday, that Marcus Avant from Northwest Mississippi Junior College has pre-qualified and signed to play for the Golden Knights in the 2003-04 season.

UCF Floods Niagara In Home Opener      UCF, led by Ray Abellard's 29 points, had two players set career highs and another equal a career best as the Golden Knights routed Niagara, 94-69, in their home opener at UCF Arena Monday evening.

PREPARATIONS FOR MEETING WITH OHIO     UCF has an all-time record of 12-11 in the final game of the year. Of those games, UCF is 12-6 at home. UCF has never won a road game to finish the season, going 0-5. The Golden Knights will not have the opportunity to reverse that trend this year because UCF will finish the season at home for the 19th time in 24 years.

NEW ORLEANS EDGES UCF WOMEN’S HOOP IN OT     Monique Taylor had 20 points and 13 rebounds as the University of New Orleans defeated UCF, 64-61, in women’s basketball action at Lakefront Arena on Monday night.

UCF Tops RedHawks In First Meeting     UCF proved it belonged amongst the top teams in the MAC Saturday, when they defeated Miami-Ohio 48-31. Although the season is nearly over and Marshalls’ win meant that the Knights would not finish first in the MAC East, UCF is excited none the less about ending their season on a positive note.

UCF IMPROVES TO 2-0 WITH WIN OVER EASTERN ILLINOIS     Sophomore Takira Allen (Tallahassee/Quincy Shanks HS) scored a career-high 16 points as the UCF women’s basketball team earned a 77-47 victory over Eastern Illinois in the final day of the UCF Golden Knights Classic at Kissimmee Civic Center.

UCF Volleyball Wins Second Straight A-Sun Championship      Junior outside hitter Leyre Santaella Sante slammed a match-best 24 kills and added 20 digs to lead UCF to the Atlantic Sun Championship with a thrilling five-game victory over Georgia State Saturday afternoon at the UCF Arena in Orlando.

UCF Capsized By Navy In Season Opener     The Golden Knights were unable to find a rhythm offensively and were plagued by 22 turnovers as they came out on the short end of a 68-56 decision to Navy at Alumni Hall Friday evening.

FINAL PREPARATIONS FINISHED FOR MIAMI GAME     UCF wrapped up its week of practice Thursday in preparation for its Mid-American Conference showdown against the second-place RedHawks of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio Saturday at 1 p.m. Practices during the week were scaled back in terms of hitting to allow injured players to heal but UCF coach Mike Kruczek was still pleased with what he saw.

UCF Volleyball Looking For Second Straight A-Sun Crown     The 2002 Atlantic Sun Volleyball Championship returns to Orlando for the first time since 1996 this weekend at the UCF Arena. The Golden Knights are in search of their second consecutive conference crown and their 10th overall, the most of any A-Sun institution.

MARQUEE QUARTERBACK MATCHUP IN STORE IN OXFORD     A matchup of two of the MAC's best quarterbacks will be on the menu Saturday when UCF travels to Oxford, Ohio for a game against Miami University. UCF junior Ryan Schneider and Miami sophomore Ben Roethlisberger are both ranked in the top 20 in the nation in total offense and passing efficiency.

Leyre Santaella Sante Named The A-Sun's Player-of-the-Year      Junior outside hitter Leyre Santaella Sante was named the Atlantic Sun Player-of-the-Year and three other UCF players garnered A-Sun accolades Wednesday by the conference office.

11-17-2002  UCF Defeats Kent State On A Stormy Night     The victory brings the Knights to .500 for the first time this season, and keeps their remote MAC East title hopes alive. While their chances of finishing first in their division are slim, the Knights have yet to give up on the idea.

11-14-2002  Men's Hoops Tips Off Successful Preseason     Freshmen forward Marcus McGee scored 16 points, including a stretch of 13 in a row during a key second half run, as UCF defeated Conarpesa of Argentina, 101-89, in exhibition action Wednesday evening at UCF Arena.

11-14-2002  UCF WOMEN READY TO BATTLE AUBURN IN NCAA OPENING ROUND     The UCF women's soccer team (18-4-0) battles Auburn in the opening round of the 2002 NCAA Women's College Cup Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla. Even though the two teams have not played since the 1997 season, the two teams are familiar with each other since Auburn is coached by former UCF player/coach Karen Richter.

11-13-2002  UCF Volleyball Inks Two Recruits     UCF head volleyball coach Meg Colado announced Wednesday the signing of two student-athletes to national letters-of-intent to play volleyball for the Golden Knights beginning in 2003. Kate Street (Spring, Texas/Klein) and Jana Mitchell (Champlin, Minn./Osseo) have given Colado their signatures to play for UCF.

11-13-2002  FOUR UCF MEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS HONORED BY A-SUN     Sophomore Eric Vasquez (Miami/Miami Sunset Sr. HS) was named First Team All-Atlantic Sun, while junior Tobias Kronberger (Rankweil, Austria/Borg Schoren) and freshmen Juan Pablo Giraudo (Miami/Miami Sunset Sr. HS) and Ryan McIntosh (Cooper City/St. Thomas Aquinas HS) earned second team honors, the conference office announced on Wednesday morning.

11-13-2002  UCF SEEKS HOME WIN     UCF and Kent State will kick off at the Citrus Bowl on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. It marks the second time the two teams have met, but the first time as league opponents.

11-10-2002  UCF Win Against Slumping Buffalo Bulls    Coming into Saturday’s game at Buffalo Stadium, there were questions as to whether or not UCF would be able to adjust to the cold temperatures and get the job done.

11-10-2002  UCF Defeats Jacksonville 3-2 to Win Atlantic Sun Women's Soccer Championship     Freshman Courtney Baines scored her first goal of the year in the 79th minute to lift UCF to a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville in the final of the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday night at the Eakes Athletic Complex.

11-06-2002  UCF LOOKING TO EXPERIENCE ADVANTAGES OF CONFERENCE PLAY     The cold weather in Buffalo may be a concern for the Golden Knights on Saturday, but it was the rain in Orlando that forced the team from the practice field early on Tuesday. The practice session made it just 20 of the 24 scheduled periods.

11-05-2002  KNIGHTS READY TO FACE CONFERENCE OPPONENT     UCF put a difficult 38-35-weekend loss to Syracuse behind them and began preparations to resume play in the Mid-American Conference as they head to Buffalo this weekend.

11-05-2002  UCF MEN'S GOLF FINISHED IN  7TH PLACE AFTER TWO ROUNDS AT THE FALL BEACH CLASSIC     The Golden Knights shot an opening round 289 and a second round 283 at the Gulf Shores Country Club for a two-round total of 572. Kentucky and Jacksonville State lead after two rounds with a team score of 559.

11-05-2002  UCF Volleyball Defeats Morgan State     Sophomore middle blocker Amanda Stoutjesdyk registered 14 kills and nine block assists to lead UCF to a four-game victory over Morgan State Monday evening in volleyball action at the UCF Arena.

11-04-2002  UCF CONTINUES TO SHINE AT CHATTAHOOCHEE CHASE     The UCF women’s rowing team continued to represent the Golden Knights well as it competed in the Chattahoochee Chase on Sunday.

11-03-2002  Special Teams' Costly Mistakes, Knights Fall Against Orangemen     Syracuse defeated UCF 38-35 at the Citrus Bowl, in a game where the teams combined for 935 yards of total offense and 73 points. The shootout looked like it would be one-sided in the first-half, after UCF marched into the end-zone on a six-play, 69 yard opening drive.
