SIX FROM UCF EARN
ALL-MAC HONORS
Cornerback Asante Samuel, defensive end Elton Patterson, and
strong safety Atari Bigby are among six players from UCF to
earn all-conference honors by the Mid-American Conference.
The trio earned first-team defensive honors, while receivers
Jimmy Fryzel and Doug Gabriel earned second-team honors
along with punter Ryan Flinn.

Future Is Bright
UCF fans were probably not the only football
aficionados cheering Doug Gabriel on Saturday, as he set a school record with
four touchdown receptions in a 42-32 win over Ohio. NFL scouts and personnel
were without a doubt taking notice as well, watching Gabriel, a senior, catch
seven balls for 179 yards.

Marius Boyd's put-back with one second remaining lifted UCF to a 50-49 win
over Indiana State University in the championship game of the University Hoops

UCF TO MEET FLORIDA IN THE NCAA
VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The UCF volleyball team will play Florida in the opening
round of the 2002 NCAA Volleyball Championships, as announced by the NCAA
Selection Committee Sunday night. The Golden Knights will be making their
sixth appearance in the NCAA Championships and the second straight under head
coach Meg Colado.

Ray Abellard and Ed Dotson combined for 46 points and the UCF defense allowed
just 24 second-half points as the Golden Knights were able to put away a pesky
Maine squad 72-55 in third round action at the University Hoops Classic at

Ashore For First Round Win
Senior Ray Abellard hit seven of his nine free-throws in the
final two-and-a-half-minutes en route to a 22-point game as UCF turned back

FRYZEL HONORED TWICE BY
THE MAC
UCF receiver Jimmy Fryzel (Lakeland, Fla.) was honored by the
Mid-American Conference this week as its East Division Offensive Player of the
Week for football and its male Scholar Athlete of the week for all sports as a
result of his performance in UCF’s 48-31 win against Miami University in
Oxford, Ohio Saturday.

The UCF men's basketball team and head coach Kirk Speraw announced on
Wednesday, that Marcus Avant from Northwest Mississippi Junior College has
pre-qualified and signed to play for the Golden Knights in the 2003-04 season.

UCF Floods Niagara In Home Opener
UCF, led by Ray Abellard's 29 points, had two players set
career highs and another equal a career best as the Golden Knights routed
Niagara, 94-69, in their home opener at UCF Arena Monday evening.

PREPARATIONS FOR MEETING WITH OHIO
UCF has an all-time record of 12-11 in the final game of
the year. Of those games, UCF is 12-6 at home. UCF has never won a road game
to finish the season, going 0-5. The Golden Knights will not have the
opportunity to reverse that trend this year because UCF will finish the season
at home for the 19th time in 24 years.

Monique Taylor had 20 points and 13 rebounds as the
University of New Orleans defeated UCF, 64-61, in women’s
basketball action at Lakefront Arena on Monday night.

UCF Tops RedHawks In First Meeting
UCF proved it belonged amongst
the top teams in the MAC Saturday, when they defeated
Miami-Ohio 48-31. Although the season is nearly over and
Marshalls’ win meant that the Knights would not finish first
in the MAC East, UCF is excited none the less about ending
their season on a positive note.

EASTERN ILLINOIS
Sophomore Takira Allen (Tallahassee/Quincy Shanks HS) scored a
career-high 16 points as the UCF women’s basketball team earned a 77-47
victory over Eastern Illinois in the final day of the UCF Golden Knights
Classic at Kissimmee Civic Center.

Junior outside hitter Leyre Santaella Sante slammed a
match-best 24 kills and added 20 digs to lead UCF to the Atlantic Sun
Championship with a thrilling five-game victory over Georgia State Saturday

The Golden Knights were unable to find a rhythm offensively and
were plagued by 22 turnovers as they came out on the short end of a 68-56
decision to Navy at Alumni Hall Friday evening.

FINAL PREPARATIONS FINISHED FOR MIAMI GAME
UCF wrapped up its week of practice Thursday in preparation
for its Mid-American Conference showdown against the
second-place RedHawks of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio
Saturday at 1 p.m. Practices during the week were scaled
back in terms of hitting to allow injured players to heal
but UCF coach Mike Kruczek was still pleased with what he
saw.

Straight A-Sun Crown
The 2002 Atlantic Sun Volleyball Championship returns to
Orlando for the first time since 1996 this weekend at the UCF Arena. The
Golden Knights are in search of their second consecutive conference crown and
their 10th overall, the most of any A-Sun institution.

MARQUEE QUARTERBACK MATCHUP IN STORE IN OXFORD
A matchup of two of the MAC's best quarterbacks will be on
the menu Saturday when UCF travels to Oxford, Ohio for a
game against Miami University. UCF junior Ryan Schneider and
Miami sophomore Ben Roethlisberger are both ranked in the
top 20 in the nation in total offense and passing
efficiency.

AUBURN IN NCAA OPENING ROUND
The UCF women's soccer team (18-4-0) battles Auburn in the opening round
of the 2002 NCAA Women's College Cup Friday at 4:30 p.m. in
Tallahassee, Fla. Even though the two teams have not played
since the 1997 season, the two teams are familiar with each
other since Auburn is coached by former UCF player/coach
Karen Richter.

of two student-athletes to national letters-of-intent to
play volleyball for the Golden Knights beginning in 2003.

Minn./Osseo) have given Colado their signatures to play for
UCF.
